DESIGN PRO TIPS
Figuring out how to calculate how much wallpaper can feel daunting, but it really is not. FOLLOW below easy steps and soon you'll earn all bragging rights!
1. Get your tools out. Make Your Dad Proud!
- Tape Measure - You may be tempted to use the measuring tool from your smart phone, but unless you are a professional and can do this in your sleep, it is preferable to stick with a manual tape measure.
- Pencil & Paper - Who has pens and notepads at home anymore, right? Unless you have kids you can steal some from, use attached links to your local Lowe's.
- Wall Repair Patch Kit - Time to fix all those annoying little dings you have pretended didn't exist every time you walked by, and create the baby-skin smooth surface your beautiful wallpaper deserves! Fill any cracks or holes with spackle compound and sand for a smooth finish. If the wall has a lot of texture, consider re-sanding or applying a primer for better adhesion. Need more Wall Patching Tape? Need Larger Putty Knifes? Need Sandpaper? Remember, the higher the grit number, the more refined the result.
- Clean the surface - Use a damp cloth and mild soap to remove dust, grease, and dirt. Let the wall dry completely before applying the wallpaper.
2. Calculate your Wall Area = Width x Height
- Round up to the nearest inch.
- Measure the entirety of the wall, using the widest and tallest sides.
- Include windows and doors, but do not include moldings or baseboards.
- Double check your calculations. A math error can leave your project short of needed material. Use our methodology to get the right number of wallpaper rolls every time! You can also cross check your numbers with this Lowes wall calculator
